What is Meditation?
Meditation is both a skill and an experience — a formal exercise to cultivate awareness and compassion. By sitting with the mind, we’re training it to be more open and at ease, and we consequently discover greater calm, clarity, contentment, and compassion. In doing so, we increasingly learn to have a direct experience of the present moment.
Meditation isn’t about changing who you are or becoming a different person. It’s about training awareness and building a healthy perspective.
It modern times, we are constantly bombarded with stimuli, always fighting for our attention. Meditation allows us to take a step back and observe what’s truly important to us.
Meditation is a SKILL
Like any skill, meditation requires practice. Just like a muscle, the mind gets stronger when worked on. Meditation is a great skill to develop as it helps with many aspects of our day-to-day lives, including:
- Control anxiety
- Promote emotional intelligence
- Helps depression
- Regulated mood
- Reduced alcohol and substance abuse
- Help manage ADHD
- Improved focus and attention
- Greater ability to work under stress
- Improved decision making
- Improved long and short-term memory
- Improved mood and psychological well-being
- Improved creativity
